The Kyiv City Council adopted the capital’s budget for 2025 on December 5, 2024, setting it at over 90 billion hryvnias!
Among the budget’s key priorities is education, for which 32.4 billion hryvnias have been allocated. In addition to supporting municipal institutions, further funding is planned for the state program “Money Follows the Child,” which will serve as an alternative to enrollment in state kindergartens in Kyiv.
What is the “Money Follows the Child” Program?
- The program was created for parents who choose private kindergartens in Kyiv instead of state ones.
- It provides a financial compensation of 6,329 hryvnias per month per child.
- However, compensation is only provided for attendance at licensed private institutions that are participants in the program.
- The program’s goal is to make private preschool education more accessible and support families in choosing quality educational services.
Why is This Beneficial for Parents?
- Financial Support: Partial compensation for the cost of tuition.
- Flexibility of Choice: The ability to choose an institution that best meets the child’s needs.
- Quality Guarantee: Only licensed kindergartens that meet established standards participate in the program.
Important Changes for 2025
As expected, due to the increase in the minimum wage to 8,000 hryvnias and rising tariffs, the compensation amount was reviewed and increased from 4,934 UAH to 6,329 UAH per month starting in April 2024. This can be an additional advantage for parents choosing private kindergartens.
