What do you know about Maria Montessori’s method?
What do you know about Maria Montessori herself?
Let’s figure it out)
There are a lot of different articles, conversations and opinions on this topic, and they have not subsided for more than 100 years!
So, Maria Montessori is an Italian educational psychologist, the first woman to prove herself in this field back in the 1890s. It was she who proved and, in fact, became the founder of teaching children in a playful way.
While education was not available to all children, even from wealthy families, children with mental and mental disabilities were generally written off and were kept in orphanages and were not taught even the most basic skills.
It was thanks to the fact that Maria spent a lot of time with such children that she was able to find an approach to them, determine the reasons for their poor development and the causes of mental and psychological disorders.
Observations of such children, as well as children from poor families, helped Maria Montessori choose the right approach and tools for teaching absolutely everyone for children, regardless of their abilities and background. This technique has proven itself so clearly and effectively that it has become used to teach all children, regardless of their development, age and skills.
Maria Montessori defended her dissertation on this topic and introduced her own education system, which has been in great demand for 130 years in all developed countries of the world.
What is the essence of Montessori education?
To describe it in a few words, it is:
“Help me do it myself” – many people are familiar with this motto, but not everyone understands it.
- The essence of the method is to focus on the development of the child’s desire to learn and develop with the help of his own desires and natural needs through practical games.
In the Montessori method, children develop at their own pace through exploration, manipulation, structure, repetition, contact, and communication with other children.
The technique allows the child to feel like an adult and independent, express himself and help others through such simple actions as: dressing and undressing, cleaning the workspace and premises, practicing and helping other children learn. - Read the next article for the essence of this approach.
Recognition of the work of Maria Montessori:
- Maria Montessori’s method has received international recognition from UNESCO, which has been awarded to only 4 teachers!
- A crater on Venus was named after Maria Montessori.
- The first schools with the Montessori teaching method were opened in 1907 in Italy, followed by Italy, schools began to appear in Switzerland and Great Britain (in 1911), then the teaching method was picked up in France, Argentina, Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico , Syria, USA and New Zealand.
- Maria Montessori’s photo appears on banknotes and coins of countries such as Italy, the Netherlands, India, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
- Royal members of the family in Great Britain, as well as many famous people around the world, studied using Maria Montessori’s method (but more on that in the following articles).
